Roofing Felt

Roofing felt provides the essential secondary weatherproofing layer beneath tiles and slates, protecting your roof structure from wind-driven rain, condensation, and debris. At McMahons, we stock a comprehensive selection of underlays and membranes suited to pitched roofs across residential, commercial, and agricultural buildings, ensuring long-lasting protection whatever the Irish weather throws at your project.

Our Roofing Felt and Underlay Range

From traditional bituminous felts to advanced breathable membranes, our range covers every application and budget requirement.

  • IKO Rubershield Eco Extra breathable membrane (120g) - a 120g/m² BBA approved Type LR breathable membrane for cold ventilated pitched roofs, forming a water-impermeable secondary layer that isolates the structure from wind-driven rain, snow, and dust penetrating the primary roof covering. 50m x 1.5m roll.
  • Tyvek Supro breather membrane - a durable reinforced laminated polypropylene membrane that is airtight and vapour-permeable, suitable for all supported and unsupported pitched roofs including warm, hybrid, and cold roof configurations. Requires no additional soffit, tile, or ridge ventilation, saving time and cost. 50m x 1.5m roll.
  • IKO Pro HP roofing felt adhesive - a cold-applied high-performance bitumen adhesive for bonding bituminous roofing membranes to concrete, metal, plywood, and OSB3 decks without hot bitumen or flames. Also suitable for sealing lap joints and bonding chippings to the final layer of a built-up roofing system. Available in 5L tins.

Selecting the right underlay depends on your roof construction type, ventilation strategy, and local exposure conditions. Breathable membranes suit most modern warm roof builds, while traditional felt remains appropriate for ventilated cold roofs and non-habitable spaces. Consider the weight, lap requirements, and whether counter-battens are needed for your chosen product.
