Reducers are transition strips that create a smooth, safe, and visually clean join where two flooring surfaces of different heights meet at a doorway, threshold, or change of room. Where laminate meets ceramic tile, or where a new floor surface is slightly higher or lower than an adjacent one, a reducer provides the gradual slope needed to eliminate a trip hazard while giving the junction a professionally finished appearance.

When selecting a reducer, the height difference between the two floor surfaces determines the reducer profile you need. A reducer with an appropriate ramp angle should be chosen to match the actual height difference rather than using the steepest available profile, as an over-steep ramp can itself become a trip hazard.
