Door Hinges

Hinges are the fundamental mechanism that allows a door to open and close, and selecting the right type, size, and material is critical to a door's long-term performance. With 44 products in our range, McMahons stocks a comprehensive selection of hinges for domestic and light commercial door installations across all common door types and sizes.

Our Hinges Range

  • Butt hinges - the standard residential door hinge, available in a range of sizes from 75mm to 100mm to suit different door weights and thicknesses, in finishes including satin nickel, polished chrome, polished brass, and zinc-plated options for external use.
  • Ball-bearing butt hinges - an upgrade on standard butt hinges, incorporating ball bearings in the knuckle for smoother, quieter, and longer-lasting door operation, recommended for frequently used doors and heavier door weights.
  • Parliament hinges - heavy-duty hinges designed to swing a door clear of the wall reveal, used where a door needs to open a full 180 degrees to fold back flat against the wall.
  • Flush hinges - lightweight, surface-mounted hinges for lightweight internal doors, cupboard doors, and storage furniture, requiring no morticing and providing a neat flush appearance when the door is closed.
  • Piano and continuous hinges - full-length hinges for applications where load must be distributed across the full height of the door, such as large barn-style doors and cupboard lids.

Complete your door installation with compatible Door Handles and Latches & Catches, and explore our full Ironmongery & Door Fixings range for all associated hardware.

When specifying hinges, always calculate the door weight and select a hinge size and quantity rated to carry that load. Standard internal doors up to 40kg require two 75mm hinges, while heavier doors over 40kg should be fitted with three 100mm hinges or ball-bearing alternatives. For fire doors, use only CE-marked hinges tested for the specific fire rating of the door assembly.
